Riley's Hump

Riley's Hump is an important geological feature known as a "give-up" reef located in the northern portion of the Tortugas South Ecological Reserve. A "Give-up" reef is a reef which is not growing fast enough to keep up with sea level rise. Riley's Hump has long been known to local fishermen who have recognized it as an important spawning area for a variety of commercially important reef fish species.
